Success

Can anyone define success?

It is rather an ambiguous, unobtrusive word as it lies completely upon the discretion of the person as to how he/she envisions success.

Webster's dictionary defines it as " achieving something desired or attempted". This might be the correct definition of success as far as I can reckon.

But we humans have a proclivity to compare one's success with another individual. We try to please others rather than pleasing ourselves. This leads to dejection, unhappiness and lack of confidence. Life is too short and in the long run we fail to chance upon our innate abilities, thus wasting our precious life.

It's not a prudish practice to disregard one's success. For a poor person, success is getting a square meal each day, for some it might be earning money, be it black or white, for some it might be getting a respectable post, for a religious person, adhering to religion defines success and so on.

But there are some people who undervalue other individuals' meaning of success. It is not a wise thing to do as the world consists of varied people with multitude versions of success and every person's version of success should be venerated.

Lastly, there is a quote saying that "I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody." We should always do what we want to rather than comparing ourselves with others.
